In the public sector WTG have been instrumental in developing and running the IMPACT Nominal Index (INI) police database. The INI allows a police officer in one force to check quickly whether any other force holds information on a person of interest.
Developed in response to Sir Michael Bichard’s inquiry into the Soham murders, the system was first deployed in child abuse units in December 2005. Since then we have extended it to include the 43 police forces in England and Wales, and earlier this year it was rolled out to Scottish Forces, Northern Ireland, and British Transport Police.
The bespoke system, developed by WTG, is already making a significant difference to the protection of children, as well as helping the police service establish a fuller picture of suspects, make links to other investigations and ultimately safeguard the communities it serves.
